The pundits predicted doom for the hosts Russia in 2018 World Cup. This is because they struggled to win any friendly match ahead of their tournament opener against Saudi Arabia. However, Stanislav Cherchesov has silenced all his critics with two wins out of two to become the first team to reach the last 16 with a game to play. They hammered Egypt 3-1 in their second Group A match. Golovin and his teammates also covered 115km which is the second-best distance made by any team so far.

Russia will need at least a draw to finish as Group A winners when they face Uruguay in their third and final match. The hosts thrashed Egypt 3-1 to make it six points and eight goals so far. The European giant is enjoying the tournament so far after a great start. In their first match, they recorded 118km in distance covered. It is still by far the furthest any team has done so far. This perhaps explains why they destroyed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in front of thousands of fans at the Iconic Luzhniki Stadium.
