Former Manchester United playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan almost joined Liverpool as his former agent Dimitry Seluk revealed.

The Armenia international joined the Red Devils side in the summer of 2016 from Borussia Dortmund following three successful seasons at Signal Iduna Park.

However, football agent Seluk has revealed that the midfielder’s Premier League journey could have started at Liverpool.

Seluk told TheseFootballTimes: “Eventually, we parted ways with him because of that whole situation.”

“Obviously, by that time, Mkhitaryan had already become a well-known player, and when Borussia Dortmund offered Shakhtar €27 million for Henrikh, suddenly Raiola was all over him.”

“Although I had already talked to Liverpool who were also interested in Mkhitaryan and wanted to sign him.”

“If Mkhitaryan hadn’t lied to me and we hadn’t parted ways with Henrikh, he would have been a Liverpool player.”

The 29-year-old, who failed to make his mark at Old Trafford under Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho, eventually joined Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk star has managed to score twice and set up other 5 in 12 appearances for the Gunners.
