Footballers switch clubs for many reasons. In most cases, better chances of playing regularly tops the list. Other reasons include better salaries among other reasons. Today, we take a look at soccer stars sold off few weeks after signing. The reasons are varied but justified according to them.

In 1998, immediately after the World Cup in France, Premier League side Coventry paid £2.6m to sign Croatian star Robert Jarni from La Liga side Real Betis. One week later he joined Real Madrid for £3.35 million. It was a painful loss to Betis because they had just refused to sell the player to Madrid.
Jarni later explained what happened: ‘I wouldn’t say it was my wife’s decision, but it was a family decision – my family was against moving to England. We had small children, my daughter was in elementary school in Spain and we preferred to stay there rather than move to England.
‘I was honest about it, and when I told (manager Gordon) Strachan, he understood.’

In the summer of 1980, Arsenal splashed £1.25 million to sign QPR striker Clive Allen. He played a couple of pre-season games for the Gunners. However 2 months later he was swapped for Kenny Sansom from Crystal Palace.
‘Several different theories were put forward. There was no foundation to any of them. I mean, if Arsenal wanted Kenny, why didn’t they just buy him from Palace?’’ Allen said later about the bizarre transfer.
3. Martin Demichelis
Malaga to Atletico Madrid to Manchester City
Stoke City are trying to sign Benik Afobe just FOUR days after he agreed a £10 million to Wolves!

In August 2013, Martin Demichelis signed for Atletico Madrid on a free transfer. He said the following after completing the deal to play under Diego Simeone at Vicente Calderon.
‘I know that I’m joining the best defense in the league and I hope we can keep that up. I will come here with a humble attitude and will contribute what I can. I hope it’s a successful year for me and for the team.’
A few weeks later he learned Manchester City led by Manuel Pellegrini wanted him. He told the Spanish side he wants to leave. A month later in September, he was playing at Etihad. He played three years for City winning 1 Premier League and 1 League Cup. Good decision at the end.
