Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old midfielder has extended Barcelona contract to 2021 but the Gunners have an option to make the deal permanent in July.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been strongly linked with the Spaniard as he wanted to reunite with his former Sevilla player.

Emery told Arsenal’s website: “We are very happy that Denis Suarez is joining us. He is a player we know well and I have worked with him at Sevilla.”

“He brings us quality and options in many different attacking positions, so he’ll be able to help the team.”

The Spain international spent two seasons at Premier League champions Manchester City where he made just two appearances which came in League Cup.

“One thing no one knows about me is that when I was little and I used to watch the Premier League on the TV, Arsenal were a team that really inspired me,” said Suarez.

“I used to watch [Dennis] Bergkamp and [Thierry] Henry – they’re both legends of the club and hopefully we can follow in their footsteps.”

Suarez, who scored eight goals in 71 appearances for Barcelona, could make his Arsenal debut on Sunday evening when they face his old team, Manchester City.
