Lionel Messi has insisted that Barcelona need to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer to help them win the UEFA Champions League.

Griezmann has previously been linked with Premier League move with Manchester United have emerged as the right suitors last summer.

However, after signing a new long contract at Wanda Metropolitano last year, Griezmann is now the target of Barcelona.

The Catalan side, who last won the Champions League in 2015, have already the strong front-line. But Messi believes the France international could bring the European glory back at the Camp Nou.

“I am in agreement that to win the Champions League again we need to have the best players – Griezmann is one of them,” Messi told Sport.

“If the club sign him, brilliant. I don’t know if he’s the priority. That depends on the signing committee and the coach.”

“I can only say that to win the Champions League you have to have the best players. And he is very good.”

Griezmann, who joined Atletico in 2014 from Real Sociedad, has now managed 112 goals in 209 appearances for the club across all competitions in four seasons.
