League Cup Odds: Man United odds-on for Trophy

Manchester United brushed aside Nottingham Forest to set themselves up with a 1999 Wembley rematch with Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday, 26th February.

Anthony Martial and Fred scored the second half goals which ensured that Manchester United would head through to the final of this season’s carabao Cup, even though they had effectively assured themselves of a trip to Wembley thanks to a 3-0 win in the semi-final first leg at the City Ground. For Martial, this was his sixth goal of the season and it marked a welcome return for him after a four-game injury absence.

While the Red Devils’ barren run hardly compares to that of Newcastle United, Erik ten Hag knows that if they fail to clinch this piece of silverware it will be the club’s lengthiest spell without a trophy since the nine seasons following their European Cup victory back in 1968.

Newcastle will be relishing their first trip to Wembley for 24 years, the Magpies overcoming Premier League strugglers Southampton 3-1 on aggregate over the two legs of the semi-final. The Tyneside outfit last contested a League Cup Final some 47 years ago when they lost 2-1 to Manchester City, while their last domestic piece of silverware came in the form of the 1955 FA Cup.

Manchester United are odds-on favourites to get the better of the Magpies in this clash, most bookies going 4/6 on Erik ten Hag’s men. Newcastle United are available at best odds of 6/5 to win a final which in reality could go either way.
