Jose Mourinho has dropped praises for Russia winger Aleksandr Golovin following his performance against Saudi Arabia on Thursday during the opening day of the 2018 World Cup.
It was reported that Mourinho has been scouting Golovin instead of Marko Arnautovic during Russia’s final pre-World Cup friendly against Austria last month.
The 22-year-old, who has also emerged as Arsenal target this summer, is believed to be available for £20 million.
Therefore, Mourinho, who is now the pundit at the Russian broadcaster RT, has claimed that Golovin is the kind of player who gives the dynamic of the team.
“The manager changed the team in relation to the match I watched in Austria. He played with a back four, which is normal against a team like Saudi,” Mourinho told RT.
“I think Alan Dzagoev was playing quite well but when he came out, the fact that Golovin could go to a more central position, I think it helped the team.”
“The team became better. Golovin is a playmaker, he’s a player that gives the dynamic of the team.”
“Denis Cheryshev is a fast boy on the wing, more of a winger than Golovin, stretch the game more than Golovin, so I think the change worked perfectly.”
Golovin, who earned a promotion to the senior team for CSKA Moscow in 2014, has since managed 13 goals in 113 appearances across all competitions.
