Bundesliga Players On International Duty: Who To Watch ?

Even with club football off the agenda for the week, Bundesliga fans have much to look forward to during the November international break. A plethora of Bundesliga stars will be flying the flag in the coming days, guaranteed to draw crowds in all four corners of the world.

For a true taste of Bundesliga flavor, look no further than the USA’s FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier with Mexico. No less than nine Bundesliga representatives could be involved in Colombus, with the USMNT providing seven alone.

USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s faith in Bundesliga talent has made international mainstays out of Germany-born duo John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin) and Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach in recent times, while providing fertile ground for the development of Bobby Wood (Hamburger SV) and USMNT wonderkid Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund).

Pulisic

Julian Green keeps his place, fresh from making his own piece of history as the first ever American player to score a competitive goal for FC Bayern München. There are also recalls for SV Werder Bremen striker Aron Johannsson and revitalized Eintracht Frankfurt defender Timothy Chandler.

Chandler’s return to prominence is mirrored by team-mate Marco Fabian, the Mexican playmaker whose trying early days in the Bundesliga saw him overlooked for this summer’s Copa America Centenario and 2016 Rio Olympics. His subsequent showings have been nothing short of spectacular, however, with three goals and four assists helping catapult Frankfurt up to seventh in the Bundesliga standings.

Fabian

Hot on the Eagles’ tails are a Bayer 04 Leverkusen ensemble spearheaded by Fabian’s close friend and international teammate, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. The most prolific Mexican to have graced the Bundesliga has already scored five times in the league this season and hits the international trail needing just one more goal to draw level with Jared Borgetti as his country’s all-time leading marksman.

Staying with the Americas, turbo-charged Bayern winger Douglas Costa returns to the Brazil set-up for the Selecao’s crunch qualifier with Argentina. The 26-year-old was a spectator during the close season due to injury, but is now back doing what he does best: tying Bundesliga defenders up in knots.

Costa

Brazil are in pole position to reach the World Cup finals in Russia, albeit with Copa America Centenario winners Chile only five points off the qualifying pace in fifth place. Talismanic Bayern midfielder Arturo Vidal scored both goals for La Roja in a 2-1 win over Peru last time out and can once again count on Leverkusen’s Charles Aranguiz and Copa America Centenario top scorer Eduardo Vargas (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim) for support against Colombia.

Over in Asian qualifying, Bundesliga workhorses Yuya Osako (1. FC Köln) and Genki Haraguchi (Hertha Berlin) take centre stage for a Japan outfit that also includes Gotoku Sakai (Hamburg), Makoto Hasebe (Frankfurt) and Shinji Kagawa (Dortmund). A trip to Thailand awaits Australia’s Mathew Leckie (FC Ingolstadt 04) and Robbie Kruse (Leverkusen), while FC Augsburg duo Ja-Cheol Koo and Dong-Won Ji are key to South Korea’s World Cup hopes.

Kagawa

It goes without saying that African eyes will light up at the sight of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Dortmund striker who netted four times against Hamburger SV at the weekend to move joint-top of the Bundesliga scoring charts on 11 goals.

The Gabon international is the Bundesliga’s leading African goalscorer and, along with Hertha’s Salomon Kalou (Cote D’Ivoire), FC Schalke 04 pair Nabil Bentaleb (Algeria) and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Gladbach’s Ibrahima Traore and RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita (both Guinea), is doing his home continent proud.

Keita

Europe, too, is sprinkled with Bundesliga star dust. In addition to the 20-strong Bundesliga cast at Germany head coach Joachim Löw’s disposal, the likes of Hertha goal machine Vedad Ibisevic (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Bayern maestros Thiago Alcantara (Spain) and Renato Sanches (Portugal), Leipzig duo Emil Forsberg (Sweden) and Oliver Burke (Scotland) are all match-winners in their own right.

With so many stars from Germany’s top flight seeking to do their respective countries proud over the coming days, this latest mini Bundesliga hiatus is guaranteed to be something to savour.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan finally explains the real reason behind his Manchester United exile

Published

By

Manchester United forward, who joined the Old Trafford side in the summer, has finally revealed the reason why he was not regularly playing for Red Devils since his move.

A string of strong performances in recent weeks has seen the Armenian start three of his last four games, where he performed particularly well against West Ham in the EFL Cup, providing two assists and setting up Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a lovely back-heeled assist.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Mkhitaryan explained the real reason behind his exile at the Theatre of Dreams: “There was no bad relation with him [Mourinho]. It was always good but the problem wasn’t him, it was me.

“Now I understand why I have got my chance and I will keep it, I will hold it, because it is very important for me to play, to be a part of Manchester United.

“I was thinking that I would be here as a starting line-up player but when I arrived I saw that there were 25 players fighting for their place and I understood that it wasn’t going to be easy.

“I had a bad game against Manchester City but that is in the past so I kept working. I have done a great job to get my chance back and I think I did it a really long way until I start playing.

“The manager has a lot of choice, he has five or six players in that position but I know that playing now I know what I have done bad in the past and what good I can do in the future. So I know how I can help the team and I will be doing my best.”

  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan finally seems to be settling in at Manchester United.
  • The former Borussia Dortmund star has only six Premier League appearances so far.
