2.Andres Iniesta

Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta played his final match for the club last weekend against Real Sociedad. The legendary midfielder announced his departure few weeks earlier. The 34-year-old won everything available in football. Unlike Buffon who never got a chance to lift UEFA Champions League, the Spaniard won 4 of them. He also lifted 9 La Liga crowns, 2 EUROs and 1 World Cup.

Iniesta Statement:

“This is my last season here,”

“There’s been so many great moments – trophies and successes, but the most significant for me was making my Barca debut. It’s been a dream come true, lots of titles, important moments throughout my career.”

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to play in so many games with Messi because there is no-one quite like him. It’s been magic, a one-off – that’s the only way I can describe it.

“I’d like to be remembered as a good footballer and a good person because when our football days are over, that’s all we are – people.”

1.Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon announced his departure from Juventus last week. He played his final match last weekend against Verona before lifting his 11th Serie A title. The 40-year-old legendary shot-stopper has re-defined the role played by the man between the posts. He helped Italy lift World Cup 2006 among many other trophies in his great career. The only trophy missing in his cabinet is UEFA Champions League. He has played in several finals but Barcelona and Real Madrid emerged victoriously.

Buffon Statement;

‘It’s the conclusion of a wonderful journey I’ve been fortunate enough to share with people who truly cared for me. I felt that day after day, and because of that love I fought and tried to do my best.’

‘The match against Verona will be my last game with Juventus. I think it’s the best way to end this wonderful adventure, to end it with another two victories, which are truly important, and to end it with the closeness and accompaniment of Andrea and the whole Juventus populace.’

‘I want to thank the Juventus family. In 2001, they signed an extraordinary talent – I’m probably biased in saying that – but I have to say that if this talent was transformed into a champion, it’s because Juve ensured that happened.’
