Championship News: Who will win promotion to the Premier League this season?

Things are very tight at the top end of the Championship table as we edge ever closer to the business end of the 2022/23 campaign and while Burnley and Sheffield United look nailed-on as far as automatic promotion is concerned, the race to clinch a play-off berth remains wide open.

Burnley continue to hold tightly onto pole position in the Championship table, the Clarets thus far enjoying an excellent season with just 2 defeats from their 28 league outings. With 18 league games left to play, the Lancashire outfit enjoy a five-point lead over second-placed Sheffield United and as we move further into the second half of the campaign, it’s clear that this is turning very much into a two-horse race for the Championship title.

Sheffield United are certain to push the Clarets all the way and they can take comfort from the fact that they enjoy a twelve-point lead over third-placed Middlesbrough. The Blades have won 17 of their 28 league matches – more than any other second-tier side with the exception of leaders Burnley – and they are second favourites to win the title.

Outside the top two, things are far less clear. Only five points separate third-placed Middlesbrough from twelfth-placed Swansea City and as such, ten sides are still in the hunt for a play-off berth. Foremost amongst these are Middlesbrough who are as low as 3/1 for promotion to the Premier League while Norwich City are a general 16/5 shot for a return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
