Championship News: Several sides in danger of the drop in 2022/23
We’re now well into the second half of the 2022/23 Championship with most teams having played 28 games, however for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Huddersfield Town, the future isn’t looking too bright.
The Championship is always a hugely competitive division and this has certainly been the case in 2022/23. Several big clubs sit either in or dangerously close to the relegation zone and with the business end of the season now rapidly approaching, time is fast running out.
At the time of writing, Wigan Athletic sit at the foot of the Championship table with 25 points collected from their 28 league outings. The Latics have managed just six league wins since the start of the season and they are odds-on favourites for the drop at a price of just 2/5.
Huddersfield Town made it into the Championship play-off final last season where they lost to Nottingham Forest, however while the Tricky Trees are in with a decent chance of keeping themselves in the Premier League next term, there’s a real possibility that the Terriers will find themselves two divisions below them.
The West Yorkshire side sit third from bottom in the Championship table after 27 rounds of fixtures and they have lost more league games (15) than any other side, with the exception of bottom side Wigan. The bookies go 4/7 that Huddersfield suffer relegation this term and going on recent form, it would be no huge surprise to see them in the third tier in 2023/24.
Blackpool are another side in real danger of relegation, the Seasiders currently sitting second-from-bottom in the division with just a single point separating them from Wigan. The Lancashire outfit have collected just 6 wins from their 27 league matches and they are third favourites for the drop at odds of 5/6.
