Brazilian winger Bernard has revealed the reason behind his decision to snub Chelsea and decide to join Everton this summer.
The 25-year-old has made it clear that Everton boss Marco Silva has played a key role in convincing him to join the Goodison Park side.
Bernard, who joined the Toffees from Shakhtar Donetsk, has been heavily linked with Chelsea move this summer.
West Ham United and AC Milan have also launched their offers for the Brazil international but the midfielder opted to join the Merseysiders.
After signing his contract, Bernard told evertontv: “I chose Everton because of all the things I had heard about Marco Silva and after speaking to him I was happy with what he said to me.”
“That’s really why I made the choice – because of the confidence both the manager and the club showed in me.”
“Everton is a great club with a great tradition and with all of these factors in place, it was my choice.”
“The manager made me feel confident about playing here. He is a very good coach and he has achieved really good things at other clubs.”
“Everton is a club with a great structure and a lot of tradition, historically the fourth most successful club in England. When I found out about this opportunity and what the manager wanted out of me I was happy.”
Asked specifically about his chat with Silva, he continued: “I did not need a lot of convincing. I believe I will be able to show my best as a player here.”
