UEFA Champions League 2018/19 season will return in September. The preliminary stage is ongoing but the main tournament starts after the formation of Groups. This year, all top clubs in four major Leagues qualified automatically to the group stage. This year all top clubs will be looking to dethrone Real Madrid. The Los Blancos have lifted the trophy in the last three years consecutively to take their tally to 13 European crowns. Today, as we wait for the best club competition in the World to start, we want to look at best scoring defenders in the history of the competition.

5. Sergio Ramos- 11 Goals

Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos has played 114 matches in UEFA Champions League. The Spaniard is one of the most consistent players in Europe today. He is a natural leader on the pitch. He does not fear getting booked or red carded because he is a warrior. The legendary centre-back has netted 11 goals in Europe alone for the Los Blancos. We all remember that crucial equalizer in the last minute in the final against Atletico Madrid. He does not score tap-ins. Former Real Madrid and AS Roma defender Christian Panucci also netted 11 goals.

4. Gerard Piqué- 12 Goals

Barcelona will be determined to go past the quarter-final stage after going out in that level for the last three seasons. In 2017/18 season, they suffered a shock second leg defeat against Serie A side AS Roma despite winning the first leg at Camp Nou 4-1. Gerrard Pique scored the third goal at home to take his tally in UEFA Champions League to 12 goals.

3. Dani Alves- 12 Goals

Yo volver al Barça? 😝. #loveusomuchguys❤️ #ilovethisgame⚽️ #ALLEZPARISSS

Paris Saint-Germain signed Dani Alves last summer from Juventus. The former Barcelona and Sevilla fullback is a threat going forward. He is good defensively but he offers more to the team in the final third. The 34-year-old Brazilian has netted 12 goals in 152 appearances in Europe. Last season the high spending Ligue 1 side were knocked out by Real Madrid in the round of 16 stage.
