Arsenal have officially announced the host of new squad number changes – including Hector Bellerin, who changes the shirt number for the fourth time.
Veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech, who had previously worn the No.33 shirt, was made the club’s new No.1, which was last worn by current Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny
Therefore, this could be bad news for Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, who was expected to be handed the most popular goalkeeper’s number for the 2018-19 season.
Spanish full-back Hector Bellerin has also changed up for the fourth time, as he previously worn the numbers 40, 39, 24 and now has taken No.2 shirt.
Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny has also changed from 35 to the retired captain Per Mertesacker’s number 4 shirt.
Furthermore, Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka shifted from No.29 to his favourite No.34. The number has been worn by Francis Coquelin before moving to Valencia.
The 34 shirt number holds personal significance to Xhaka as is also tattooed on his back and his arm.
Before joining the Gunners, the former Borussia Monchengladbach star said: “That was my first professional number at Basel. It’s even tattooed on my back. I would also like to wear it in the future.”
