For the UCL final, United were without Roy Keane and Paul Scholes who were key members for their starting XI. They were both serving a suspension and this forced Ferguson to readjust his team. Weakened Red Devils conceded in 6th minute only.

Fergie soon brought in Ole Solskjær and Teddy Sheringham. The game reached injury time at the end of the second half and United were yet to find the net.

With 2 minutes left on the clock, they won a corner for which goalkeeper Schmeichel also went up, but it was partially cleared by the Bayern defence. But it fell to Giggs who passed the ball to to Sheringham who opened Bayern’s goal.
