France Vs. Uruguay

France stepped up the gear when they faced Argentina in the last 16. The European side struggled to get going in the group stages but a good team should be able to raise their game when needed to. This is what Didier Deschamps side delivered when they outplayed and hammered Lionel Messi side 4-3. This time around, they will be facing a very different team.
Uruguay has just been Uruguay since day one. They just defend with numbers then counter-attack when an opportunity arises. If you know how Atletico Madrid plays, then you know how to face the South American side. Oscar Tabarez is not too worried about the ball, he only thinks about what to do with it when his team gets it. So far, it is effective.

The quarter-final clash will be a little bit different. Edinson Cavani suffered a calf injury and there is a little chance he will be fit enough to play. However, if he does, things will take a different turn. Blaise Matuindi, the box-to-box Frenchman is suspended after getting the second yellow card. This means Le Bleus will miss his energy in this crucial match. This means Corentin Tolisso or Stephen N’Zonzi will get the nod.
Unlike Portugal who were a little bit one dimensional when attacking, Uruguay will struggle to stop Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Nabil Fekir and Paul Pogba. They only needed to stop Cristiano Ronaldo in their round of 16 clash but they still conceded. On the other hand, an early goal or two by Luis Suarez and his troops will make it very difficult for the EURO finalists to comeback in this game.

The South Americans are very light in midfield. This means Pogba, Kante and Tolisso will dominate the ball. This might tilt the tie in their favor if they can find the front players. Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez are always ready to defend for their lives but unless there is anything to protect, they will find hard to keep a clean sheet for ninety minutes. Kylian Mbappe is now full of confidence. There is no reason why he will not try everything he did to terrorize the Argentines.
Uruguay 🇺🇾 and France 🇫🇷 have played 3 times in the FIFA #WorldCup.

The two sides have met three times before in the World Cup. Uruguay won 2-1 in 1966 finals but the tie finished 0-0 in 2002 and 2010. They have also met three times in friendly matches and again the South Americans won the last one they played in 2013. The other two played in 2008 and 2012 ended in 0-0 draws. This is a clear indication that these two sides know this game will not be a walk in the park. However, France current squad is too hot for anybody to handle. Lionel Messi will certainly tell his son Thiago about how his side was terrorized. The European side has a more balanced team as compared to Oscar Tabarez transitional squad. For this reason, Didier Deschamps will carry the day.
