Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has claimed that his teammate Lionel Messi is irreplaceable amid his broken arm ahead of El Clasico with Real Madrid.

Messi has fractured the radial bone in his arm during his side’s 4-2 win over Sevilla on Saturday in their La Liga clash.

The Blaugrana are also set to play their first El Clasico on Sunday afternoon without Messi at Camp Nou.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will be out of action for three weeks, but his teammate Alba has admitted that no one can fit in Messi’s shoes.

“There is no other player that can substitute Leo, however good they are,” the Spaniard told reporters in a press conference.

“Leo is different to the rest, he makes the team better. We all have to take responsibility. Sometimes, everyone looks to Leo to resolve games, but with him missing we all have to work hard and show what a great team we are.”

Messi, who contributed 12 goals and five assists from 11 outings in all competitions so far this season, is likely to miss Barca’s Champions League double-header with Inter Milan.
