Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has confirmed that he is moving to the Premier League this summer as he insisted that he doesn’t want to waste the opportunity to join Arsenal.
The Uruguay defensive midfielder, whose side was eliminated by France from the World Cup, is now in his way heading to North London for medical.
The 22-year-old, who is said to cost Arsenal £26.5m, is expected to undergo his medical on this Monday.
“I would have been very happy to be able to return to Uruguay with my teammates, but this is a fantastic opportunity [to join Arsenal] and I do not want to waste it.”
Earlier this month, Torreira’s father Ricardo confirmed that they are preparing a plan that will help his son to settle in England.
“There will be people that will accompany him,” he said.
“He won’t be alone. It’s a big change [going to England] and we don’t want to think about it yet because we’re scared.”
“The truth is it’s tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours.”
“But there’s a whole programme getting readied for Lucas.”
Torreira, who started his senior career at Italian side Pescara, moved to Sampdoria in 2015 before being loaned back to the club.
The midfielder has since gone on to make 74 appearances for the Stadio Luigi Ferraris’ side in two seasons.
