Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has told Arsenal manager Unai Emery that Mesut Ozil is not good enough to be handed the captain’s armband at the Emirates.
Emery is yet to name his Arsenal captain since he took over from Arsene Wenger in May with Petr Cech has been acting captain since the start of the season.
The former Real Madrid playmaker has scored five times in 35 appearances for the Gunners last season.
However, Hoeness believes that Ozil’s performance at Emirates Stadium doesn’t guarantee him the captaincy.
“I’ve been watching the player for a long time and he’s a well-marketed product whose image is a lot better than he is, which is the only big blame for me,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“Had [Germany coach Joachim] Low gone to Arsenal more often in London and looked at him properly, he probably would not have taken him for sporting reasons.”
“It is a miracle that he is now captain at Arsenal.”
Ozil, 29, has scored 37 goals in 198 appearances across all competitions since joining the North London side from Real Madrid in 2013.
