Barcelona signed Bordeaux winger Malcom for £36.5m a day after Roma announced they were signing him. We take a look at five things to know about Barcelona’s Macolm.

5. Previously played for Corinthians and Bordeaux

Malcom started his youth career with Corinthians in 2008 until he was given his debut with the senior team in 2014. He spent just one season with his home side where he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A before a transfer to Europe with Bordeaux.

At Bordeaux, Malcom developed into one of Europe’s bright forwards with brought about a move to the  La Liga Champions Barcelona.

4. He nearly joined Roma before the late Barca swoop

Malcolm looked set to join AS Roma of the Serie A on Monday, with the Italian club announcing it had reached a deal over his transfer. But that was stumped by a last-minute effort from Barcelona, with the player agreeing to join the Spanish side over the Italians.

It looked nearly certain he would be playing in Italy, but Barca prevailed with a more convincing offer in the end to earn his signature.

3. Malcom is yet to play for the Brazilian national team

Malcom was not included in the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup despite winning the league under Brazil coach Tite while they were are at Corinthians.

The 21-year-old has featured for the Brazilian youth set at U-20 and U-23 levels; he was part of the U-20 team that finished in second place at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
