It always makes news when a player joins a club on a mega-deal. The whole world went crazy when Neymar left Barcelona on a world-record £198 million to PSG. A year later, Twitter exploded when Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid.

But how were the performances for those expensive players’ debut in their new clubs? Here are the top 5 expensive players and their debut in the new clubs.

5. Ousmane Dembele for Barcelona

Barcelona paid Dortmund an initial £96m for the French international Ousmane Dembele. Dembele made his first appearance as a second-half substitute during his team’s huge win over Espanyol. Barcelona won the game 5-0, thanks to a Lionel Messi hat-trick and goals from Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez. Ousmane did not see the net that day.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus

Former Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Italian champions Juventus in a deal worth €112 million ((£99.2m). The Portuguese made his home debut for Juventus as they beat Lazio to extend their 2-0 winning start to the season. Unfortunately, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to score nor assist on his debut for the new club.

3. Kylian Mbappe for PSG (2 Goals)

Kylian Mbappe cost PSG €180 million (£165.7m) from Monaco. The French forward didn’t take long to bring his goal-scoring ways to Paris. On his debut, the then 18-year-old netted twice in PSG’s 5-1 victory over Metz.
