FIFA 2018 World Best awards for best male and female footballers and Coaches were announced on Monday night in London. By now we all know the winners but what is making the headlines is how the votes were shared. Lionel Messi fans are not happy and the numbers below show why. Let us take a look at the voting results creating a buzz all over the World.

6. Antoine Griezmann- 6.69% of Votes

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann recently said he feels he is in the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He helped his club lift UEFA Europa League and Super Cup in 2018. He also scored important goals to help France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, he finished sixth on the list of best male World player of the year this year with only 6.69% of total votes cast.

5. Lionel Messi- 9.81% of Votes

Lionel Messi is considered by many one of the best if not the best footballer of all time. However, for the first time in 10 years, the five times World player of the year was not even among the top three in FIFA The Best Male awards on Monday. The 31-year-old helped Barcelona lift La Liga and Copa del Rey double scoring 45 goals in 54 appearances. No other player scored more goals than him in Europe.

The problem for him was the catastrophic collapse against AS Roma in UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. The second problem happened in the manner in which his country Argentina failed to live up to the hype in the FIFA World Cup 2018. However, Mohamed Salah won zero trophies for Liverpool last season. Therefore, Messi fans will say he does not deserve to be getting only 9.81% of total votes cast this year. He even finished behind Kylian Mbappe. It is shocking, to say the least.

4. Kylian Mbappe- 10.52% of Votes

Kylian Mbappe is not a big fan of Lionel Messi. The 19-year-old will be pleased to see he has actually finished ahead of him in 2018 FIFA ‘The Best’ awards with 10.52% of total votes cast. The young striker had a great year. We enjoyed watching him score four great goals to help his country France lift their second World Cup. He was sensational and nobody can argue about that. He also helped PSG lift all domestic trophies including Ligue 1. He deserves to be in the top five but maybe not ahead of Lionel Messi.
