European football season is taking a break to pave way for two weeks of International football. UEFA has introduced a new tournament called the Nations League. This competition will see teams in the same category in strength compete for the honors. It will also involve relegation and promotion for non-performers. Today, before we get to enjoy the first round of matches in the tournament, we want to look at how superstars performed for their clubs last weekend. Did CR7 score a goal for his new team? Find out here.
6. Cristiano Ronaldo- 23 Shots, Zero Goal
Juventus defeated newly promoted side Parma 2-1 away from home to maintain a 100 percent record in Serie A. The goals were scored by Mario Mandzukic and Blaise Matuindi. However, everybody in Turin, Italy and indeed around the World is waiting for a goal from superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has made 23 shots since the opening game but still no goal for him. There is no doubt he will score soon but we are all waiting for that celebration.
5. Eden Hazard- Chelsea
Chelsea is enjoying a great start to the new season under new boss Maurizio Sarri. The Blues have not lost a single game so far. Last season, they thrashed Bournemouth 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to go joint top with 12 points out of 12. The goals were scored by second-half substitute Pedro and Eden Hazard. The Belgian was unstoppable once again this season. He was making things happen for the home side. The good news for the fans is that the transfer window is now closed. Real Madrid ended their interest in him which means he can now concentrate on his game.
4. Benzema & Bale- 3 Goals
Real Madrid thrashed Leganes 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday to maintain a 100 record so far in La Liga. Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored a single goal for his new side Juventus but Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are firing from all cylinders. This weekend, the French forward netted twice to make it 3-0 after the Welshman opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Sergio Ramos also netted his third goal in three games from the spot. It is a dream start for the Los Blancos as they try to navigate the season without talisman CR7. So far, apart from empty seats at the stadium, all is good for the new Coach.
