Jose Mourinho 1-0 defeat against bottom side West Brom handed Premier League title to Manchester City last weekend. Manchester United and Liverpool are fighting for the second place. Chelsea and Arsenal would like to catch Tottenham Hotspur who occupy the fourth place on the table but that looks highly unlikely. The relegation battle is getting hotter but time is running out for Stoke City and Southampton. Today, the focus is hat-trick heroes. In fact, in 2017/18 season, only seven players have recorded hat-tricks. They are;
7. Callum Wilson- 1 Hat-trick
Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson gave Phil Jones and Chris Smalling a hard time on Wednesday night when Manchester United visited. In the end, the Red Devils won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Smalling and Romelu Lukaku.
The story could’ve been different if the 26-year old English forward played like he did against Huddersfield on 18th November 2017. The Cherries thrashed the promoted side 4-0 at Vitality Stadium and Wilson netted three of the four goals that day.
6. Alvaro Morata- 1 Hat-trick
Chelsea fans were in dreamland when Alvaro Morata scored his first hat-trick in Blues colors. The Spaniard arrived last summer from Real Madrid after being linked with Manchester United all summer. It was a great signing for the club.
On 23rd September 2017, the former Juventus forward netted the opening goal against Stoke City after only 2 minutes on the clock. He went on to complete his hat-trick in the 82nd minute to help Antonio Conte side win 4-0 away from home. There was war of words between Red Devils and Blues fans in regard to the quality of their two top signings Lukaku and Morata. The debate has died because so far the Belgian has 27 goals in all competitions as compared to only 14 netted by the Spaniard.
5. Aaron Ramsey- 1 Hat-trick
Arsenal playmaker Aaron Ramsey was on fire on 3rd February 2018 against Everton. The Welshman netted a perfect hat-trick in 68 minutes to help the Gunners beat the Toffees 5-1 at Emirates Stadium. It was a great day for the fans but unfortunately, such bright moments have been rare for the club this season. Arsene Wenger side is set to finish sixth this season unless a miracle happens.
4. Wayne Rooney- 1 Hat-trick
Everton forward Wayne Rooney has also bagged a hat-trick this season. The former Manchester United striker did not only score three goals against West Ham but he did so in style. It happened on 29th November 2017 when the Hammers visited Goodison Park hoping to get at least a point. Big Sam had just taken over and the Stadium was buzzing with optimism. The legendary forward scored his first and second goals in the first half.
In the 66th minute, Joe Hart made a poor clearance at the edge of his 18-yard area and it fell perfectly for Rooney at the halfway line. He smashed perfectly to the back of the net and the entire stadium gave him a standing ovation. It was voted November goal of the month.
