Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly believed to be interested in midfielder Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow with the Frenchman is set to return to club management.
According to Golovin’s agent Sandor Varga. Wenger has expressed an interest in Russian central midfielder upon his return to management.
Golovin has been strongly linked with Arsenal move during the 2017 summer transfer window, but a move has eventually collapsed.
The 22-year-old, who is a CSKA Moscow graduate, is currently with Russia national team for the World Cup duty.
Asked about the possibility of Golovin moving to Chelsea, Varga told Russian outlet Sport Express: “I can say the same about Wenger.”
“I asked Arsene about Golovin, the Frenchman said: ‘I do not know what Arsenal will do, but I’ll take him for myself’.”
“Arsene wants to work. While there is no certainty, we negotiated with two clubs, but did not come to an agreement. But if Wenger takes [charge of] any team, Golovin will have another option.”
Golovin has extended his contract with CSKA Moscow on 2 December 2016 until the end of the 2020–21 season.
The midfielder has scored seven times and four assists in all competitions for the Russian side during the 2017-18 season.
