Liverpool could have decided to get out of Nabil Fekir deal as the Premier League giants are looking to sign Riyad Mahrez, according to report.
The Reds have almost signed Lyon forward Fekir after signing Fabinho earlier this month.
However, the deal collapsed after undergoing a medical at Anfield and the 24-year-old is now focusing on the World Cup with France in Russia.
Liverpool have now turned their sight to Algeria international Mahrez has been strongly linked with away move from Leicester City since last summer.
Mahrez has been the main target for Manchester City during January transfer window and the 27-year-old has now opted to stay at King Power Stadium.
According to Liverpool Echo could pick Mahrez instead of Fekir, while Reds legend Phil Thompson thinks Algerian attacker would be an ideal signing.
“Yes (Liverpool should sign him). I don’t know where he’d get into the side,” he said.
“But you can see him, on his day, he can be a match-winner. He can but he’s not done it enough and whether that’s because he’s been unhappy there or whatever.”
“But this boy’s got tremendous talent, you see the quality that he brings.”
“He can take it from A to B very very quickly which relieves pressure at times. Yeah, he’s a talent, I’d take him for £20million! In my dreams.”
Mahrez, who joined Leicester in 2014 from Le Havre, has helped the Foxes to win their first Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.
