Paul Merson has claimed that when Manchester United players are in action, they look as if they terrified by manager Jose Mourinho.

The former Arsenal midfielder has insisted that some Red Devils players will not be upset to leave the Old Trafford in the summer.

United have produced another poor display on Thursday night during their goalless draw at West Ham at the London Stadium.

Since March 2016, the North-West side have never failed to score in back-to-back matches; but Mourinho’s men failed to score against Brighton and the Hammers successively.

Therefore, Merson believes that Mourinho is to blame for a lack of confidence from United’s frontline.

“Every time a Manchester United player misses a chance they always run back and look at Mourinho in the dugout – they look petrified,” Merson told Sky Sports News.

“You watch Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool play – and sometimes Arsenal – and you can see the patterns of their attacking play.”

“It looks like there is a plan. It’s different at Manchester United – everyone is standing still, everyone just passes the ball – there is no movement. I think the players are petrified.”

“If a player gets sold in summer, they wouldn’t leave Manchester United crying. A lot of them look like they don’t enjoy their football.”

Mourinho and his men will host Watford on Sunday, May 13 for their last Premier League game of the season.
