Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ father has revealed that his son has rejected Manchester United move and chose to link up with Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Red Devils have seriously been in contact with Greece international as Jose Mourinho side were able to pay a £16m fee.
However, the Borussia Dortmund defender’s father has made it clear that the 29-year-old is now expected to complete his switch to the Emirates Stadium this week.
Charalambos Papastathopoulos has also revealed that United were too slow in offering a concrete deal for the former AC Milan star.
“There was interest from United but he had to wait until July for them,” Charalambos told The Sun.
“United have a very good relationship with Dortmund, the teams were talking more closely.”
“He chose to go to Arsenal instead, he is happy. He is in England at the moment and everything will go well.”
Sokratis, who is turning 30 later this week, has now arrived in London on Monday to finalise terms and undergo Arsenal medical.
The centre-back, who joined Dortmund in 2013 from Werder Bremen, has a year left to run on his contract at Signal Iduna Park.
