The World Cup will kick-off on 14th June 2018 in Russia. The opening match will be between the hosts and Middle East nation Saudi Arabia. 5. Holland Under-21 (13-12) England Under-21

Match: U21 European Championships-2007

England has suffered countless tournament elimination through penalty shootouts. This is perfectly the reason why Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has been training his players on how to take penalties. If any of their matches in Russia need to be decided via spot kicks, he wants his players to be ready.

In 2007, the young Lions were knocked out by the Netherlands in the same manner. Anton Ferdinand second spot-kick after both teams scored all 11 first penalties, struck the bar and the English side was out yet again. The Dutch side won it 13-12.

4. Final Score: Worcester City 13-14 Scunthorpe

Match: FA Cup- 2014


FA Cup longest shootout record belongs to Worcester City and Scunthorpe. In 2014, the two sides could not eliminate each other in regulation time. The match had to be decided in spot-kicks after the 1-1 draw in normal time.

The two sides went all the way to the 14th penalty and League One side Scunthorpe emerged victorious. Non-League side Worcester City came very close to a third round qualification.

3. Final Score: Liverpool 14-13 Middlesbrough

Match: Capital One Cup- 2014

Liverpool fans will certainly never forget this particular night in 2014. The match could not be decided in normal time forcing the referee to turn to penalties. Both sides netted the first eleven spot-kicks. The two had to be separated by the 14th spot-kick. Albert Adomah of Middlesbrough finally missed to decide the tie and send the Merseyside giant through to the next round.
