Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined Premier League side Manchester United in the race for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder’s signature this summer.

Fred has strongly been linked with a move to the Premier League champions Manchester City, but have dropped out of the running last month.

United are now leading the race for the Brazilian, but PSG could provide stiff competition for Fred’s signature.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the French champions are in the market for a mobile defensive midfielder, who could replace veteran Thiago Motta.

The free-spending Ligue 1 giants are looking for another midfielder to compete with Adrien Rabiot with new signing Lassana Diarra is now 33.

Fred, who still has five years remaining on his current deal with Ukrainian side, has a release clause of €60m in his contract.

United manager Jose Mourinho is looking for retired midfielder Michael Carrick replacement and Marouane Fellaini whose future is still uncertain.
