Ibrahimovic, who recently moved to the MLS, is the latest United player to have worn the number 10 shirt after former club captain Wayne Rooney.
Read the statement on United official website: “Manchester United can confirm Marcus Rashford will wear the iconic no.10 jersey when the new season gets underway.”
“The striker graced the shirt number for the first time on Sunday, during Manchester United’s final pre-season game against Bayern Munich.”
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has also revealed that Rashford wanted the number for a long time ago, although he was in Rooney and Ibrahimovic’s shadow.
“He wanted it,” Mourinho told MUTV. “He always wanted it. Of course, he respected the big [Wayne] Rooney and then Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] wanted to have it.”
“Of course, he was in the shadow, waiting for the opportunity and now the shirt is empty.”
“It’s something fantastic for the kid, let’s give the shirt to him.”
Rashford, 20, who started his youth career at United in 2005, was promoted to the first team in 2015.
