Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the club are making progress on contract extensions for David de Gea and Anthony Martial.

Both stars are out of contracts at Old Trafford at the end of this season and negotiations regarding new long-term deals are ongoing.

According to Sky Sports News, France international forward Martial is close to reaching an agreement on a five-year extension.

On the other hand, De Gea’s deal, in particular, will prove encouraging for the Red Devils supporters after a number of months of speculation.

The 28-year-old Spain international is believed to become the world’s best-paid keeper with a new contract worth up to £400,000-a-week, including bonuses.

And the Norwegian boss is confident chief executive Ed Woodward can tie down the players United want to keep at Old Trafford.

Asked for an update, Solskjaer said: “I think the club is making progress, yeah, but I leave that to the right people to do that.”

“I don’t really know how far away from it [we are] but hopefully we can have some good news in the coming weeks.”

In addition to De Gea and Martial, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling among others, face uncertain futures with each out of contract in the summer.
