Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will not appear in the Champions League clash with Juventus on Tuesday.
United will host the Italian champions at Old Trafford with Cristiano Ronaldo will be returning to his former home.
Sanchez, who did not train with the United squad on Monday, is confirmed by the manager he will play no part in the game.
“The players you saw [training] are the players who are available,” Mourinho said. “Nothing to hide. Alexis is out.”
The 29-year-old, who came on as a late substitute in his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday, had arrived back in London straight from international duty last week.
The Chile international, who played 90 minutes in a friendly for his country in Mexico last week, had joined up with his club teammates straight in London, not from Manchester.
When asked about club captain Antonio Valencia’s omission, Mourinho replied: “The reason was that he was 10 days without training, not an injury. But he had a very complicated surgery on his mouth and he needed time to recover his level after that.”
The former Chelsea boss has also given his verdict on Anthony Martial’s current form for the club.
“I think Martial is like the team, the team is playing fine, Martial is playing fine – it is easier for individuals to play when the team is playing well and vice versa.”
“Anthony played in two matches where the team played really, scored five goals and he played well too.”
