It all started with a couple of mojitos. If you ever listened to the lyrics of Shakira’s single, “Me Enamoré,” then you know a little bit about the beginning of her whirlwind romance with Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique.

A couple of Mojitos

In the song, “Me Enamoré,” Shakira illustrates, “I thought, ‘this one is still a boy, but what can I do.'” With this line, she’s referencing the ten-year age difference between them. Coincidentally, the two share the same birthday.

She then goes on to explain how they dance and danced until she fell for him; they fell for each other. She goes into detail about his blue eyes, mouth and how much she adores his beard.

According to the song, she had one MOJITO and then another, until she decided to stay for a bit longer. And we’re glad she did.

It seems Shakira spotted him and made her move, as she says, “I saw him alone, and I dove in.” The official lyric video also paints a picture of a lot of the references throughout the track.

Shakira ends the song by saying that she told herself that night, “He’s for me or no one else.”

The Weather

Pique admitted that he wooed his partner Shakira by asking chatting to her about the weather back in 2010. In what sounds like the worst chat-up line of all time, it appears the pop star did not really mind.

He said: “I met Shakira in Madrid, when we were preparing for the 2010 World Cup, after appearing in the Waka Waka video. It all started when we were together in South Africa and I wrote to her.

“She was already there because she sang in the opening ceremony and I asked her what the weather was like. It is the typical stupid question, and the normal answer is to tell me to bring a jacket.

“But she started telling me what the weather was like in every single moment and it got to the point where I told her we would have to get to the World Cup final to see her again – she was singing in the final.”

And see her he did; with the World Cup trophy and a winner’s medal in his hand; as Spain beat Holland 1-0, thanks to Andres Iniesta’s extra-time winner. The pair now has two children together, Milan, 4, and Sasha, 2.

But things have not all been easy for Pique who has admitted he will quit the Spanish national team after the 2018 World Cup, following abuse from fans for his pro-Catalan views.

Two cute kids and a happy life together

Their first child was born in January 2013, and he was named Milan. The name has a special meaning, which Shakira pointed out in his birth announcement. It means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic, and in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious. In Sanskrit, it means unification.

The couple now has two kids in the family, and seem to enjoy every bit of their family life, which helps them relax from their busy careers. Their love story is truly a kind of a modern romantic fairy tale, and both seem to be very happy together.
