Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has made it clear that he wishes to play alongside Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann has been strongly linked with away move from Wanda Metropolitano stadium since last summer as he almost joined Manchester United.

However, the France international has eventually extended his contract with Atletico as the deal failed to materialise due to club’s transfer embargo.

During January transfer window, the Catalan side have also joined the race for the 27-year-old, who has a €100m release clause in his current contract.

Real Madrid have also indicated the interest in the former Real Sociedad star, but Messi has now alerted the Blaugrana that forward would fit in with the group.

“He’s a great player and we would understand each other. He’s going through an exceptional moment in his career,” Messi told Mundo Deportivo.

“It’s not yet 100%, but the more quality we have, the better. We want to be the best team in the world, and for that, we have to look at the best.”

Griezmann has joined the Los Rojiblancos in 2014 from Sociedad and went on to score 112 goals 209 across all competitions in four seasons for Atletico.
