Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has praised defender Eric Bailly for his display against Liverpool on Saturday night although he had an injury before the game.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 by Premier League rivals Liverpool in the International Champions Cup match at StubHub Centre, in California.

Mourinho, whose side are yet to win a single game in their pre-season tour, has revealed that Bailly has accidentally played the game.

“Eric Bailly was injured – he shouldn’t be playing,” Mourinho said.

“But when he saw that Smalling in the warm-up was coming out, he made the decision by himself: ‘I’m not going to let my team play with five kids in the back against Salah, Mane and company’.”

“So he put himself there for 90 minutes and now his ankle is [much worse].

“He was there for 90 minutes so I have some brave boys.”

The 20-time Premier League winners are preparing to face European champions Real Madrid on 1st August at Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami.

Mourinho side will close their pre-season tour on 5 August as they will travel to Germany where they will face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena.
