Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has played down provoking criticism from club legend Paul Scholes on Paul Pogba.

The Portuguese boss was instead full of praise for the Frenchman as he insisted that the midfielder produced another top performance.

The 25-year-old has set up the second goal to Romelu Lukaku in the second-half as United beat Bournemouth 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Vitality Stadium.

Scholes has previously told BT Sport that Pogba’s display was a bit ‘disrespectful’ towards his manager Jose Mourinho.

However, the Red Devils boss has come out by rejecting the former midfielder’s critique on Pogba.

When asked to talk about Scholes’ criticism of Pogba, Mourinho said: “I don’t agree. I agree that it wasn’t a good performance at all (against West Brom); with that, I agree.”

The former Chelsea boss was also asked to make a comment on Pogba’s display at Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Mourinho replied: “Top performance. Top performance. Obviously, the performance against City was special, coming with two goals. But this performance was a very similar level. So top performance. He can do it.”
