Manchester United have been linked with a move for Roma forward Lorenzo Pellegrini with Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield and frontline.
Mourinho signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton in the summer of 2017 but the Belgium international is not good enough for United.
The 25-year-old has netted just four times so far this season and has recently been dropped by manager Mourinho at some point.
Pellegrini is a kind of player, who is able to play as a central midfielder and attacking midfielder.
Therefore, the Italian star can play a big role in Mourinho’s squad with the Red Devils are currently struggling to find the back of the nets this season.
However, the Portuguese boss has now suffered a blow in his bid for Pellegrini as the player’s agent has ruled out all reports linking his client with United in January.
Pellegrini’s agent Giampiero Pocetta said: “If I have to talk about Lorenzo right now the only thing I can talk about is his extraordinary form.”
“He’s getting what he deserves on the pitch, and the rumours about the transfer market have never distracted him nor disturbed him.”
“He is only thinking about improving with and for Roma. Manchester United? I’m sorry that rumour has spread about financial aspects relating to him and his teammates, but it doesn’t matter to Lorenzo.”
“These issues don’t count for now. It’s normal that Pellegrini is liked. Lorenzo is happy though, he’s already chosen Roma once.”
The 22-year-old, who started his career at Roma, has a €£27m release clause in his current contract with Roma and the 20-time Premier League champions are willing to meet it.
Pellegrini, who returned to Stadio Olimpico from Sassuolo in the summer of 2017, has managed to score five goals in 49 appearances.
