Premier League 2018/19 season will kick off on 11th of August. Manchester City will start their title defence against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Unai Emery will look to improve his bad record against the Spaniard during their days in La Liga. Jose Mourinho complains will continue when he welcomes Leicester City at Old Trafford. Maurizio Sarri will open his English League account for Chelsea away against Huddersfield Town. Liverpool attacking football will be re-ignited once again at Anfield against West Ham United while Spurs will travel to entertain Newcastle United at St. James Park. Today, with less than 10 days to go before the new season begins, we want to look at five clubs with serious injuries to key players.
5. Manchester City- 5 Bad Injuries
Manchester City had the highest number of players in the just concluded FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. This means Pep Guardiola has a serious headache because his team is disjointed at the moment. It will take close to two months to get the whole team playing at the same level again. This might open doors for other teams to get results against them in the first couple of matches next season. The Champions must prepare to face Chelsea in FA Community Shield this weekend before travelling to face Arsenal at Emirates a week later. No time to even think about the task ahead for the Spaniard.
City also has several injuries to think about before the new season. They include;
- David Silva- Ankle Injury
- Aymeric Laporte- knock
- Riyad Mahrez- Ankle injury (slight doubt)
- Benjamin Mendy- Muscle injury (slight doubt)
- Phil Foden- Hamstring Injury
4. Tottenham Hotspurs- 6 Injuries
Tottenham Hotspurs fans are worried their team will not be ready for the new season. This is because almost all first team players played in the latter stages of Russia World Cup 2018. This means they were given extra holiday days. The stars on extended break include Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderwield, and Jan Vertonghen among others. It will be a shame if they open the new stadium with negative results.
Therefore, it is hard for Mauricio Pochetino to miss six more players due to injury. They include;
- Moussa Sissoko- Hamstring injury
- Erik Lamela- Muscle injury
- Victor Wanyama- Knee injury (recurrence)
- Harry Winks- Ankle Injury
- Joshua Onomah- Knee injury
- Juan Foyth- Thigh strain
3. Liverpool- 6 Injuries
Liverpool defeated Manchester United and City 4-1 and 2-1 respectively to end their US tour on a high. They have also made some serious signing this summer to send warning signals to top six and title contenders ahead of 2018/19 season. However, Jurgen Klopp has six injury concerns. The following stars are doubtful ahead of the new season in the next few days.
- Loris Karius- Knee injury
- Georginio Wijnaldum- Muscle injury
- Naby Keita- Stiff neck
- Joel Matip- Thigh injury
- Danny Ings- Ankle injury
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- Achilles knee injury
