Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has confirmed that Manchester United stand a chance of signing Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho in the summer.

Coutinho joined the Catalan side from Liverpool in January 2018 in a deal reported to be an initial £105m, which could rise to £142m.

However, the 26-year-old has since struggled to make his mark at Camp Nou under manager Ernesto Valverde.

According to reports, the Brazilian is unhappy at the club and his teammates have lost faith in him.

The playmaker has been linked with away move this January with Manchester United are said to be chasing him.

But Balague has revealed that the Blaugrana are ready to let the midfielder move in the summer due to financial restrictions.

“Barcelona don’t want to get rid of him now,” he said on the Guillem Balague Transfer Show.

“That is the end of that obviously, that became very clear earlier in the transfer window.”

“But there is a big but because the problem with Barcelona is they are increasing the wage list, having decreased it of course.”

“But with the signing of (Frenkie) De Jong, they’re trying to get (Adrien) Rabiot, they may have to get rid of some players.”

“In fact De Jong was told by him coming in meant that two regulars were going to go.”

“So in terms of Coutinho, they haven’t got to that stage where they have to push, or want to push, Coutinho out.”

“But the jury is out. It’s not clear what his role is at Barcelona, he’s not confident either.”

“So unless you improve Barcelona may just decide that the other player that they want to get rid of is Coutinho.”

“Right now that’s not the case but let’s keep an eye on it because the summer could be interesting.”

Coutinho, who made 52 appearances for Barca in all competitions so far, has managed to score 18 goals.
