Manchester United hero Paul Ince has revealed that Jose Mourinho did not make recruitment as good as Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola did.
The former Red Devils midfielder has insisted that the 20-time Premier League winners are several years behind City and Mourinho isn’t capable of overturning the rivals.
The Citizens dominated in the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon, with Mourinho side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
The defeat left United 12 points behind the Sky Blues who are currently on the top of the Premier League table with 32 points after just 12 games.
Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea all remain unbeaten this season in the Premier League, while United have managed just six wins in 12 matches.
Therefore, Ince has slammed Mourinho, insisting the Portuguese boss is incapable of making the North West side conquering local rivals City.
“The bottom line is, United’s recruitment hasn’t been as good as City’s,” Ince told Paddy Power.
“Money can’t be used as an excuse either – it’s not as though Jose Mourinho hasn’t had millions to spend.”
“Each player on the pitch knows their role, and would walk into any team in the league.”
“Fernandinho, for me, is the best holding midfielder in the world.”
“People talk about N’Golo Kante, but for me, what Fernandinho brings to the team is incomparable.”
“The fact is, United are several years behind City. They need to come to the realisation that there’s serious catching up to do.”
“Times have changed. Mourinho’s got to try and bridge that gap between the two teams, and honestly, I don’t think he’s capable.”
United, who are now on the eighth position in the league table with 20 points, are back in action after the international break. And Mourinho side will be taking on Crystal Palace on Saturday, November 24 at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, the city rivals travel to London Stadium to face 13th-placed West Ham United on the same day.
