Cristiano Ronaldo is considered by many football followers as the selfish man on the pitch. The Portuguese superstar really loves to score as he has an eye to goal.
Many times the rival fanbase loves to take a dig at Ronaldo’s behaviours when he is in action on the pitch. The 33-year old is renowned for his self-interest seeking as he loves to score penalties or set-pieces in general.
However, the former Manchester United star generously gave away a penalty to his teammate Karim Benzema to boost him. Although, the Portugal international was just one goal away from his 50th career hat-trick and a 300th league goal simultaneously.
But the attacker instead chose to give away that chance and opted to help his fellow Galactico get his confidence back after long-time without a goal.
Now let’s take a look at times Ronaldo gave away penalties to his teammates instead of taking them himself.
5. To Kaka vs Marseille (2009-10)
Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka had a special partnership during Brazilian’s first season at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 2009-10 campaign.
When they were playing their second Champions League game at Real Madrid, the Los Blancos won a penalty and Ronaldo has already put it ahead.
Ronaldo had scored twice in the opening, but instead of bagging his second consecutive European brace with Madrid, the attacker stepped back to let Kaka take it.
The Portugal international went on to another penalty just minutes later and could have been his first Champions League hat-trick at Real Madrid.
But the forward opted to give it away helping the Brazilian to be on target once again.
4. To Karim Benzema vs Real Murcia (2010-11)
Ronaldo gave penalty Frenchman Karim Benzema in a Copa Del Rey game to Spanish Second Division B side Real Murcia.
Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw in the first leg. But the Los Blancos responded brilliantly in the second leg.
Pedro Munino pulled one back from the spot in the 82nd minute, but another three minutes later, it was Real Madrid’s turn to try their luck from the spot.
Ronaldo scored his first goal in Copa Del Rey ever in this confrontation. But willingly the Portuguese star gave away the opportunity to get his second goal and allowed Benzema to take it.
3. To Sergio Ramos vs Athletic Bilbao (2010-11)
During Real Madrid game against Athletic Bilbao in 2010, Ronaldo took a decision to hand over his penalty-kick duty.
