Spain defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 to end the year with a victory after UEFA Nations League disappointment. Luis Enrique was impressed by debutant Brais Mendez who scored the solitary goal in the 79th minute. However, the headlines focused on Alvaro Morata terrible miss with an open goal to aim for. The Chelsea striker continues to struggle in front of goal but that chance was easier to score than miss. Today, we want to look at other worst misses in football history.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo- 2006
In 2006, Cristiano Ronaldo was just starting to get noticed in the World of football. However, he will not want to be reminded about this particular day he missed two great chances against Sheffield United. The first opportunity must have been tricky even though he should score, but the second one was criminal to miss. Ryan Giggs delivered a perfect pass for CR7 between the goalkeeper and defense. The Portuguese had an open goal to aim but he blasted it over the bar. The commentator calls it miss of the season.
4. Freddie Ljungberg- 2005
In 2005, Freddie Ljungberg missed an open chance against Bolton Wanderers. The Swedish master had spent the entire season helping Thierry Henry score 30 Premier League goals. He was probably surprised that the Frenchman was not ahead of him when the goal opened perfectly for him to tap in. He blasted it over the bar from 2 yards out with the goalkeeper already beaten by the pass. All his teammates were holding their heads wondering how that did not end in the net.
3. Fernando Torres- 2011
On September 18th, 2011, Chelsea lost 3-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, what made headlines all week was a terrible miss by striker Fernando Torres.
The Spaniard received a perfect defense-splitting pass, he managed to beat the offside trap, rounded David De Gea but when the goal opened for him, he missed the target from 6 yards. He collapsed in shame as Red Devil fans breathed a sigh of relief. It will always remain one of the worst misses of all time in Premier League.
