It was no surprise as all the expected teams reached the last 16 of the Champions League. But the catastrophes came in after, as some big fishes drew either. For that reason, many players will have to go back to their former clubs as opponents. Di you think they will be welcomed with cheers or just boos? All in all, here are the 5 footballers who will face their former clubs in the Champions League.

5. Xherdan Shaqiri (Liverpool vs Bayern Munich)

When Shaqiri began branding himself internationally, Bayern Munich was the first big club to raise the hand. On 9 February 2012, hometown club Basel announced that Shaqiri had accepted a transfer to German club for a reported €11.6 million. unfortunately, on 9 January 2015, Xherdan left for €15 million to join Inter Milan before moving to EPL. Now is the time to go back to the start as Liverpool drew Bayern in the Champions League.

4. Mario Mandzukic (Juventus vs Atletico Madrid)

Back to his time at Atletico Madrid, in 2014, Mario Mandzukic was a very threatening and brave forward. He left the club for Italian champions Juventus in 2015 on a four-year contract for a fee of €19 million payable in three installments, including a possible extra €2 million in performance-related add-ons. His former club drew Juventus and Mario will go back to Spain again.

3. Leroy Sane (Manchester City vs Schalke 04)

In March 2014, Sane had signed a three-year professional contract with Schalke 04 extending until 30 June 2017. But he did not wait until the end as Manchester City came in to give him a five-year contract for a reported £37 million transfer fee. Now that the EPL champions will go head to head against Schalke, Sane will be the focal point.
