European football season has started across Europe. Bundesliga is the only division yet to play a single League game so far but this is set to change starting from the coming weekend. Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs played their second round of matches last weekend. La Liga and Serie A opened their new season last weekend. The transfer market across Europe will close on the 1st of September. There is still time for several big deals to be done. However, for those players without clubs, it is a matter of wait and see. Today, we want to focus on big stars currently available for free. The factors and ages are different but all are ready for a new challenge somewhere.

6. Jack Rodwell- Free Agent

The story of Jack Rodwell is sad and eye-opening for young footballers all over the World. This summer, Sunderland decided to terminate his contract on mutual ground. The 27-year-old is now a free agent. People will blame Manchester City for ending his career in those two years he stayed at Etihad. They paid £12 million to sign him from Everton in 2012 but he only played 16 League matches in two years.

The damage was done and not even a championship club like the Black Cats could save him. However, we all remember the year 2009 when Sir Alex Ferguson begged him to sign for Manchester United. The youngster turned down the offer because he wanted to develop under David Moyes at Goodison Park. This is where he made a big mistake in his career. There is no doubt he will live to regrets that decision for the rest of his life.

5. Hatem Ben Arfa- Free Agent

Former Paris Saint Germain attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa is a free agent for the second time in his career. We all remember when Newcastle United and Hull City threw him under the bus for lack of fitness. He got back to his best at Nice and PSG though he had changed for good.  They signed him with high hopes but last season Unai Emery was so fed up with his laziness that he did not play a single game all season. The Ligue 1 giant released the 31-year-old and now he is looking for a club to rescue his career for the second time.

4. Patrice Evra- Free Agent

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra was sure about his career when he signed a 2-year deal with Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille. It was set to take him to that point where he will feel he can now hang his boots. However, a silly incident that involved him kicking a fan who had insulted him messed up his situation. The French club terminated his contract immediately. West Ham offered him a six months contract until the end of the season. Now the 37-year-old is a free agent but he is not ready to retire just yet. He believes one more deal is coming his way soon. He won everything during his time at Old Trafford including UEFA Champions League in 2008.
