Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has claimed that he wanted to leave the Blues this summer following a disaster season at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old joined the Premier League giants during the summer of 2017 from Real Madrid.

Morata, who cost Chelsea £58m, has struggled at Stamford Bridge as he finally lost his place to Olivier Giroud in the second half of the season.

The Spaniard, who played for Juventus in the 2015-16 season, has been strongly linked with Serie A return as AC Milan were interested in his signature.

However, the striker has eventually opted to remain at Chelsea after Maurizio Sarri took over from Antonio Conte as the new manager.

“I considered playing in Spain again, going back to Italy,” Morata said.

“Last year I was not happy, everything was a disaster. I left the country and did not know where I was.”

“Not going to the World Cup was hard for me. I did not have the best season and the coach made the decision.”

“I do not resent (Julen) Lopetegui for not taking me to the World Cup. I wish him the best at Real Madrid.”

“There are many things to improve (with Spain), but if we do what the coach asks we will win again.”
