The World would like to see another left back like Roberto Carlos shine in Russia 2018 World Cup. The legendary Brazilian is no doubt the best of all-time in his position. A number of players are fighting tooth and nail to match his level. Today, we want to see who is close to achieving what the Samba left back master did during his time at the highest level. Let’s take a look at seven left backs close to his class in the World today.
7. Benjamin Mendy- Man City
Manchester City paid AS Monaco £52m to sign left-back Benjamin Mendy. The 23-year-old was unlucky with a bad injury that restricted his play time to only 7 matches. However, he is fit once again and ready to play for his country in Russia. There is no doubt that Pep Guardiola made the right decision to sign him. He is one of the best crossers of the ball in Europe. He is also great defensively.
6. Andy Robertson- Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp did not lift any trophy in 2017/18 season but he will be proud of few things that happened last season. The arrival of Mohamed Salah and the emergence of Alexander Anorld will be up there. The German will also be proud of left-back Andy Robertson performance. The full-back has ended Alberto Moreno career at Anfield. He had a great debut season and he can only get better.
5. Alex Sandro- Juventus
Juventus left-back is up there with the best in his position. The Brazilian will probably not bench Marcelo in the World Cup but he is a safer player because of his defensive capabilities. Manchester United is ready to break the bank to land the 26-year-old this summer.
4. Marcos Alonso- Chelsea
It was shocking when Spain World Cup squad was released and Marcos Alonso name was missing on the list. The Chelsea left-back had a great season. The 27-year-old netted 8 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions. The attacking fullback had a better season than his Barcelona competitor Jordi Alba.
