Footballers are expected to shake hands before and after the match as a sign of fair play and respect. However, when the match gets underway, it becomes the job of the referee to ensure that all grievances are sorted out fairly. However, things are not always rosy; some footballers can be a handful for officials to handle. Today, we want to take a closer look at some of the most troublesome players in recent years;
6. Diego Costa- Chelsea/Atletico Madrid
The list will not be complete without Diego Costa name. The striker did not last long in the Premier League but he created enough trouble for everybody. The Spaniard was perfect at antagonizing defenders to get his way. Arsenal defenders suffered the most and the story was the same few weeks ago when the Gunners faced Atletico Madrid in Europa League quarterfinals. The great thing about him is that he is so smart that he only gets yellow cards most of the time. Antonio Conte could not handle him and as a result, the club has suffered a lot this season.
5. Mario Balotelli- Nice/Italy
Italian striker Mario Balotelli is the latest brand of hot-tempered footballers in the game. He has so far done everything you can think of on and off the pitch. Last weekend, he was heard cursing French referee after getting a yellow card, he said; “Every time, fucking French referees, every time.”
The Italian is now set to be banned for his utterances but this has been the case throughout his career. This season alone, he has collected 13 yellow cards and 1 red card. The most notable drama was his fight with teammates and Coach Roberto Martinez in training at Manchester City. He was so tough to control that they had to call security.
4. El-Hadji Diouf- Liverpool/Senegal
Happy Birthday El-Hadji Diouf 👑
Liverpool signed Diouf in 2002 for £10m, Gérard Houllier hoped the player could take the title from Man Utd.
It wasn’t to be, Diouf scored 3 league goals in his first season, 0 in the second! He did manage to spit at a Celtic fan. pic.twitter.com/jr3wSUbNm4

El-Hadji Diouf came alive when he played for Senegal in the World Cup 2002. However, little did we know that he was actually done with football after the tournament. Liverpool signed him but he became too hot to handle. He started by spitting to Celtic fans. He did it again to a girl 11-year-old when he signed for Bolton. The forward punched his teammate wife, he then threatened Anton Ferdinand and he was finished.
