Manchester United suffered an embarrassing blow after being eliminated from EFL Cup and lost hopes on the Premier League title.
Furthermore, Jose Mourinho side were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Spanish side Sevilla, at Old Trafford.
But you can imagine: what was the problem for the Red Devils? Now, let’s take a look at 3 things that are the main cause of United’s problems.
3. Romelu Lukaku’s loneliness
Manchester United signed Lukaku last summer from Everton who came in to replace current Everton striker Wayne Rooney.
The Belgian star met Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Old Trafford but the ex-PSG star was suffering from a long-term knee injury. And the veteran has eventually left the side for MLS side LA Galaxy.
Since then, the former Chelsea star is playing as a lone striker at United and is being used 90 minutes a-week-after-week.
The 24-year-old has managed to score 24 goals in 43 appearances for the Red Devils so far this season.
However, the former Everton boy still needs another good striker to help him and bring a competitiveness in the position.
2. Playstyle: Defensive game
For a club of United’s stature, they should not play a defensive game against any team. We all know Manchester United as an attacking team. But since Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford the Red Devils have never played their football.
The Portuguese always enter the game with a defensive mentality which put players into problems. With this style of playing defenders and goalkeeper David de Gea are strongly being struck.
Furthermore, the forward players are also facing critics from manager Mourinho who always accuse them not to help defenders.
United need to start acting like the heavyweight club either giving Mourinho some briefings or change the manager completely.
1. Playing Alexis Sanchez at left wing

Sanchez joined Manchester United during January window from Arsenal in a swap deal with Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Chilean’s signing looked to be fantastic business for manager Jose Mourinho but the 29-year-old is not doing what people have been waiting for.
With the arrival of Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have started to face problems. One of them (Rashford or Martial) is either dropped or deployed in the right position.
This has really killed United’s creativity because Sanchez is not doing well on the left side. On the other hand, when Rashford and Martial are deployed on the right wing, the young boys are being less productive.
Sincerely speaking, the former Barcelona star has not excelled on the left wing. So, Mourinho needs to find out another position for him or drops him.
