Over the years, the very best names in the football world have always been in La Liga. The trend saw a dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona as the serious threats to other clubs worldwide. But which names could make the La Liga’s all-time squad? Here is Spanish La Liga’s greatest squad of all time.

11. Goalkeeper – Iker Casillas

With much respect to all other goalkeepers who graced in La Liga, no one could match Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas. Casillas is considered one of the greatest and most successful goalkeepers of all time, second behind Gianluigi Buffon who never made it to La Liga.

10. Right-Back – Dani Alves

This one will come with a lot of critics saying he’s not good at defining. But try to look back and see if you can find any footage of his mistakes at Barcelona. You will just find more and more of his assists instead. He was occasionally missing in action because his role was so attacking. No-one compares such a rare defender.

9. Centre-Back – Fernando Hierro

Some would go for today’s Sergio Ramos, but Hierro is still Spain’s most prolific defender in terms of goals scored, with 29 in international football. Nothing got past him, winning five leagues and three European Cups. The used to call him La Locomotora (The Locomotive).

8. Centre-Back – Carles Puyol

A defender who can cover absent full backs, hurtling back with match-saving tackles, and diving into match-winning headers. That was Barcelona’s Centre back. Sergio Ramos and Ronald Koeman run Puyol close but he gets the nod for sure.

7. Left-Back – Roberto Carlos

Would you have gone for the indestructible serial trophy winner Marcelo? Well, he might be close but not so close to the incredible Roberto Carlos. Carlos was nicknamed El Hombre Bala (“The Bullet Man”) due to his powerful bending free kicks, which have been measured at over 105 miles per hour (169 km/h).

6. Midfield – Johan Cruyff

How can Johan Cruyff be left out of this team? Mr tiki-taka or tiqui-taca was the most famous exponent of the football philosophy known as ‘Total Football’. Cruyff’s style of play and his football philosophy has influenced managers and players.
